Res. No. 729 Title Resolution urging the Metropolitan Transportation Authority-New York City Transit (MTA-NYCT) to delay a final fare hike vote until updated financial data is available that would justify such a fare increase. Body By Council Members Liu, Addabbo, Avella, Barron, Brewer, Clarke, Comrie, Davis, Felder, Fidler, Foster, Gennaro, Jackson, Katz, Koppell, Lopez, Martinez, Monserrate, Nelson, Quinn, Rivera, Seabrook, Sears, Serrano, Stewart, Vann, Yassky and Weprin Whereas, Mass transit is vital to all New Yorkers in that it takes millions of us to work, school, and other important destinations; and Whereas, The MTA has indicated that the agency has to raise the $1.50 fare on all NYCT buses and subways; and Whereas, The MTA is indicating that it plans to hold a board meeting to vote on a fare increase within the first ten days of March 2003; and Whereas, The MTA is also indicating that it will release its 2002 financial statements in April 2003; and Whereas, The New York State Assembly has introduced A.151, legislation mandating that public authorities issue financial disclosures prior to toll or fare increases; and Whereas, The people of New York City and their elected officials deserve to see updated versions of all documents and financial analyses related to any discussion of a fare increase before it is voted on; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the New York City Council calls upon the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to delay a final fare hike vote until 2002 financial data is released APB LS# 2064
