Resolution endorsing the Speaker’s decision to have the Council intervene in the rate-making proceeding before the State Public Service Commission filed by Consolidated Edison, in which it is seeking a rate increase.

Whereas, The State Public Service Commission (PSC) regulates and sets rates for electric, gas and other utilities in New York State; and;
Whereas, Consolidated Edison Company of New York (Con Ed) filed on May 1, 2007 a proceeding before the PSC seeking a cumulative revenue increase of 18.5% over three years and a corresponding increase in customer rates; and
Whereas, A host of parties that are interested in the case, including the City of New York, the New York City Economic Development Corporation and the National Resources Defense Counsel have joined the proceedings; and
Whereas, Con Ed’s operations have, and its requested rate increase would have, a significant impact on residents and businesses in the City of New York; and
Whereas, Joining the proceedings entitles parties to notice of hearings, to receive documents served by the parties and to make appearances at the proceedings; now, therefore, be it;
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York endorses the Speaker’s decision to have the Council intervene in the rate-making proceeding before the State Public Service Commission filed by Consolidated Edison, in which it is seeking a rate increase.
