Res. No. 255 Title Resolution calling upon the United Nations to no longer remain silent and to pass a resolution condemning the practice of suicide bombings by the Palestinian community. Body By Council Members Katz and the Speaker (Council Member Miller) and Council Members Brewer, DeBlasio, Felder, Fidler, Gennaro, Gerson, Koppell, Moskowitz, Nelson, Recchia, Sears, Vallone, Weprin, Gallagher, Lanza and Oddo; also Council Member Vann Whereas, The United Nations is an organization dedicated to international peace and security; and Whereas, A suicide bomber killed 28 people at a seder on the first night of Passover the United Nations Security Council's response was silence: and Whereas, A suicide bombing of a Tel Aviv disco killed over twenty teenage Israelis, a suicide bombing at a pizzeria killed over a dozen, a café bombing killed 10, bus bombings have murdered dozens, and the list goes on and on yet there still has not been a response from the United Nations; and Whereas, The torching and desecration of synagogues throughout Europe in the name of the Palestinian community should have resulted in some form of denouncement; and Whereas, The United Nations has rightfully condemned virtually every type of racism evident throughout the world; and Whereas, The United Nations continues to pass resolutions attacking Israel and supporting the Palestinian Liberation Organization; and Whereas, The United Nations has an obligation to opine on acceptable avenues of warfare; and Whereas, Prior to May 2000, Israel was the only United Nations member excluded from a regional group, and as a result, Israel has been denied membership in a number of bodies within the United Nations, most importantly the Security Council; and Whereas, The Security Council and the General Assembly never miss an opportunity to condemn Israel yet never condemn the wanton terrorism that is inflicted on Israeli women, children, and men on a constant basis; and Whereas, The time has come to send a message to the rest of the world that the United Nations will not stand for one-sided justice or anti-Semitism; now, therefore, be it Resolved, that the Council of the City of New York calls upon the United Nations to no longer remain silent and pass a resolution condemning the practice of suicide bombings by the Palestinian community.
