A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to creating an adopt a neighborhood firehouse program.
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Declaration of legislative findings and intent. Due to the City’s severe budget crisis and the necessity of maintaining essential fire department services, the Council declares it appropriate to make provision for the earmarking of charitable giving for the exclusive use of the fire department.
§ 2. Chapter 1 of title 15 the of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended, by adding a new section 15-129, to read as follows:
§ 15-129. Adopt-A-Neighborhood-Firehouse Program. The commissioner is authorized to enter into agreements with individuals, corporations, partnerships or other entities, other than political candidates or their campaign organizations, to sponsor any firehouse or other property or structure under the jurisdiction of the department. Notwithstanding any provisions of law to the contrary, revenue from any sponsorship shall be paid into a fund or funds to be used solely for the expenditures of the department or particular firehouses.
§ 3. This law shall take effect immediately upon its enactment.
