Res. No. 623 Title Resolution calling upon the Mayor to give the highest priority to recruiting businesses in the City to employ youth in year-round and summer jobs and to expand the City's Commission on Youth Empowerment Services. Body By Council Members Foster, Baez, Barron, Boyland, Clarke, Felder, Fidler, Jackson, Jennings, Lopez, Martinez, Monserrate, Perkins, Recchia, Reyna, Rivera, Sanders, Seabrook, Serrano, Stewart, Vann, Quinn and Brewer; also Council Member Koppell Whereas, Despite the fact that there are thousands of youth searching for year-round and summer jobs in the private and public sectors, there are not enough jobs for all of our City's youth seeking employment; and Whereas, According to the Administration, the City's Commission on Youth Empowerment Services (the "YES Commission") is a Mayoral initiative created to "aggressively address the employment needs of New York City's youth, both during the summer and throughout the school year;" and Whereas, Furthermore, the YES Commission seeks to fulfill its mandate through the recruitment of businesses to offer youth employment placements and training for young people in such skills as interviewing and cover letter and resume preparation; and Whereas, The YES Commission calls upon business leaders not only to hire youth, but to share their own time and expertise by leading seminars on their own first job experiences, acting as interviewers at mock interview training sessions, becoming mentors to young people entering the work force for the first time and offering discounts for employment-related goods and services, such as clothing and grooming expenses; and Whereas, New York City's economy is positively affected through the employment of its youth; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the Mayor to give the highest priority to recruiting businesses in the City to employ youth in year-round and summer jobs and to expand the City's Commission on Youth Empowerment Services.
