Res. No. 246 Title Resolution recognizing the many contributions to our City, our communities, and our cultural and civic life made by New Americans from the Former Soviet Union. Body By Council Members Recchia, Katz, Nelson, Avella, Fidler, Gennaro, Gerson, Koppell, Rivera, and Weprin; also Council Member Clarke Whereas, Immigrants from the Former Soviet Union now constitute one of the largest and fastest-growing communities of immigrants in the City of New York; and Whereas, Our city has been immeasurably enriched by émigrés from the various states of the Former Soviet Union; and Whereas, These New Americans have contributed to the life of our City in all fields of endeavor, from business to law and culture to medicine, and have worked actively to make their communities better places to live; and Whereas, The vibrancy of the artists, musicians, dancers, writers and playwrights from the Former Soviet Union have made a significant contribution to the City's rich and diverse culture; and Whereas, Special tribute should be paid to those most dedicated individuals, who have sought to advance both the community and the City as a whole through achievement, advocacy and unfaltering dedication; and Whereas, New York is proud to be home to these dedicated members of the community; now therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York recognizes the many contributions to our City, our communities, and our cultural and civic life made by New Americans from the Former Soviet Union.
