Whereas, The City of New York has long enjoyed a special relationship with the Dominican Republic and its people; and
Whereas, New York City is home to thousands of Dominicans and people of Dominican descent, who have enriched the life and culture of the City immeasurably with their contributions in all fields of endeavor; and
Whereas, This diversity of achievements ranges from medicine and business to arts, the law and athletics; and
Whereas, In appreciation of these innumerable contributions, the City of New York honors the rich cultural heritage that its Dominican residents have woven into the cultural fabric of New York; and
Whereas, This year, the traditions and history of the Dominican people will be acclaimed with "Dominican Heritage Month," a celebration reflecting the diversity and strength of the Dominican culture and people, and what they have given our community, our city and our nation; and
Whereas, This occasion is worthy of note, observance and celebration by all New Yorkers; now, therefore be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York declares February to be Dominican Heritage Month, celebrates Dominican heritage and culture, and recognizes
the contributions of Dominican-Americans to the City of New York.
