Resolution honoring the City of New York's Fire, Police, Emergency Medical Service and all rescue workers for their heroic efforts and sacrifices resulting from the attack of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

By The Entire Council:
Whereas, The attack of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 was a day of national tragedy; and
Whereas, In responding to the terrorist attack against the City of New York and the United States, public servants from the New York City Fire Department, Police Department, Emergency Medical Services ("EMS") and other rescue workers rushed to the disaster scene; and
Whereas, As the events of September 11th were unfolding, the entire world witnessed true acts of heroism and courage as the City's bravest, finest and EMS personnel ran into the World Trade Center with the primary mission to rescue those who were still inside the Twin Towers; and
Whereas, Without hesitation these public servants and other rescue workers responded immediately to the terrorist attack risking and, in many tragic instances, sacrificing their lives; and
Whereas, The unforgettable acts of these individuals have created a renewed sense of national pride and unity throughout the United States and the world community; and
Whereas, These heroic acts not only served the immediate needs of the City of New York at its darkest hour, but their bravery and sacrifice served the entire Nation at a time of crisis; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York:
(1) expresses its profound sorrow for the deaths and injuries suffered by the City's Fire, Police, EMS and other rescue workers as they endeavored to save innocent people in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001;
(2) expresses its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those fallen;
(3) honors those individuals who participated in evacuating and rescuing the innocent people in the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks; and
(4) commends the countless public servants, institutions and private citizens who
worked selflessly to rescue victims and to provide aid and assistance to those
injured.
