Resolution observing and celebrating February as Dominican Heritage Month and recognizing the contributions of Dominican-Americans and the people of Dominican descent to the City of New York.

Whereas, February is Dominican Heritage Month, a time that is marked by the recognition of the social achievements, cultural gifts and economic contributions of Dominican-Americans and the people of Dominican descent; and

Whereas, New York City is home to over 400,000 Dominican-Americans and people of Dominican descent, who account for more than half of all Dominicans residing in the United States of America; and

Whereas, Within New York City, a city that is commonly referred to as a city of immigrants, Dominicans represent over ten percent of New York City residents that are foreign born; and

Whereas, The Dominican community has made innumerable and historically important contributions to the social, cultural and economic development of our communities, our City and our nation; and

Whereas, The celebration of Dominican Heritage Month is an occasion worthy of recognition and involvement by all New Yorkers; and

Whereas, It is with great respect and enthusiasm that the Council of the City of New York honors the diversity, character and strength of the Dominican culture and people; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York observes and celebrates February as Dominican Heritage Month and recognizes the contributions of Dominican-Americans and the people of Dominican descent to the City of New York.
