Resolution honoring the life and achievements of Nancy Littlefield.

 

By Council Members Comrie, Gonzalez, Nelson, Weprin, Vallone Jr. and Sears

 

Whereas, Nancy Littlefield, an Emmy-award winning trailblazer for women in filmmaking and, for more than 20 years, the leader of Queens Public Television (QPTV), died on September 7, 2007, at the age of 77; and

                     Whereas, Nancy Littlefield was born and raised in the Bronx, and began to make her early mark in the television industry when she worked as casting agent on such classic and famous television shows as “Rin Tin Tin” and “Father Knows Best”; and

                     Whereas, As her career evolved, Nancy Littlefield was one of the first women admitted to the Director’s Guild of America, and later became very actively involved in both the Director’s Guild of America and New York Women in Film & Television; and

                     Whereas, Among her many accomplishments in the television and film industry, Nancy Littlefield served as the Director of the New York City Office for Motion Pictures and Television under Mayor Ed Koch, and was successful during her tenure in bringing film production back to New York City; and 

                     Whereas, In 1979, Nancy Littlefield won an Emmy award for her documentary “And Baby Makes Two”, a film that explored a group of single mothers who struggled to raise their children in New York City; and

                     Whereas, In Queens, Nancy Littlefield is best known for her dedicated service as executive director at Queens Public Television, a position in which she served for over 20 years; and

                     Whereas, As part of her inspirational and illustrious career, Nancy Littlefield also taught at the film schools of New York University, Columbia University, the New School, and the University of California; and

Whereas, Nancy Littlefield was a true inspiration to all persons in the film industry, but particularly to young women who have emulated her and used her successful and full life as motivation and a role-model for their own careers; now, therefore, be it                      

Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York honors the life and achievements of Nancy Littlefield.
