A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to prohibiting the installation of artificial grass in city parks
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 18 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 18-165 to read as follows:
§ 18-165 Artificial grass in parks. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following terms have the following meanings:
Artificial grass. The term “artificial grass” means synthetic material that looks like natural grass and is used as a substitute for natural grass.
Park. The term “park” means any park under the jurisdiction of the department, including but not limited to playgrounds and athletic fields.
b. The commissioner shall not install artificial grass in any park.
c. Subdivision b of this section shall not be interpreted to prohibit the commissioner from repairing or reconstructing artificial grass that is installed in any park prior to the effective date of the local law that added this section.
§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately. Where the provisions of section 18-165 of the administrative code of the city of New York, as added by section one of this local law, cannot be applied consistently with currently applicable contracts, such provisions only apply with respect to contracts entered into or renewed after the effective date of this local law.
