Res. No. 1084 Title Resolution declaring September 20th, 2003 Racial Justice Day. Body By Council Members Barron, Baez, Clarke, Jennings, Sanders, Serrano, Stewart, Vann and Quinn Whereas, Racial Justice Day, September 20th, is a day in which the Council of the City of New York will reflect, address and confront racism and work toward fostering racial reconciliation and harmony; and Whereas, On September 1st, 2003 three black individuals were attacked and beaten by a group of whites; and Whereas, Racial Justice Day will commemorate the march and rally which occurred on September 20th, 2003 at the site of the incident, to denounce these types of racist actions; and Whereas, The City of New York is joining several other cities across the nation and the globe, including Singapore and California, who sponsor similar events to promote racial awareness and education; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York declares September 20th, 2003 Racial Justice Day; and be it further Resolved That the Council of the City of New York will annually on Racial Justice Day, announce its racial justice agenda to address structural racism, the economic roots of racism, institutional racism and individual acts of bigotry.
