A Local Law to amend the New York City charter and the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to reimbursement for health services provided to persons under the jurisdiction of the department of juvenile justice and the department of correction.

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

 

                     Section 1.  Chapter one of title nine of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended to add a new section 9-127 to read as follows:

                     9-127.  Reimbursement for health care services.  If any person under the custody and jurisdiction of the department of correction receives health-related services paid for out of city funds, the commissioner shall determine if such person is eligible for insurance coverage pursuant to any private health insurance policy or public health insurance program, such as Medicare or Medicaid, and to the extent permitted by law, seek reimbursement on behalf of the city for the health-related services provided to such person.

                     §2.                     Section 677 of the charter of the city of New York is amended to add a new subdivision g to read as follows:

                     g.                     determine if any person under the custody and jurisdiction of the department who receives health-related services paid for out of city funds is eligible for insurance coverage pursuant to any private health insurance policy or public health insurance program, such as Medicare or Medicaid, and to the extent permitted by law, seek reimbursement on behalf of the city for the health-related services provided to such person.

                     §3.                     This local law shall take effect immediately.
