A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York to require the New York City police department to notify the owner of a stolen vehicle within forty-eight hours of its recovery.
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Title 14 of the administrative code of the city of New York is hereby amended by adding a new section 14-150, to read as follows:
§ 14-150 Vehicle owner notification. Within forty-eight hours subsequent to the recovery of any motor vehicle reported by its owner to be stolen, the police department shall notify the owner of the vehicle or any person authorized by the owner to have possession of the vehicle of the recovery and location of the vehicle.
§ 2. This local law shall take effect ninety days after it shall have become a law, provided that the police department may take any actions necessary prior to such effective date for the implementation of this local law including, but not limited to, the adoption of any necessary rules.
