Res. No. 1315 Title Resolution calling upon the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York to hold hearings on the defects in the Metrocard Vending Machines. Body By Council Members Freed, Eisland, Henry, Linares, Marshall, Nelson, Sabini and Stabile; also Council Members Cruz, Espada, Foster, Harrison, Leffler and Quinn Whereas, The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has a contract with Cubic Corporation to establish an Automatic Fare Collection System including the installation of 1000 MetroCard vending machines (MVMs); and Whereas, About 55 machines per month are being installed, and in 1999 378 MVMs were installed exceeding the goal of 340 machines; and Whereas, These machines accept credit cards, debit cards and cash; and Whereas, The contract calls for 15,000 mean cycles before failure, but in fact many of the MVMs need maintenance before 3,000 transactions are completed; and Whereas, The New York Daily News on February 14, 2000 reported that the MVMs needed repairs after 2,500 transactions in the article "MetroCard Machines defects bug MTA" by Pete Donohue; and Whereas, Day and Zimmerman, Inc., the MTA's Engineering Consultant that reviews the New York City Transit Automatic Fare collection Program, reported to the MTA's Capital Program Oversight Committee at its February 14, 2000 meeting that "the improvements in MVM performance ... have not been sustained;" now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York hold hearings on the defects in the Metrocard Vending Machines. ls#2733 4/5/00 NMR:lc |1013| |1013|
