Summary: The Health Code currently requires certain chain restaurants to post sodium warnings when they sell food containing high sodium. This bill would codify that rule in the Administrative Code and expand it to include all restaurants, regardless of the number of locations. Additionally, this bill would expand the requirement to post added sugar notifications to all restaurants.

Covered establishment. The term “covered establishment” means any food service establishment inspected pursuant to the restaurant grading program established pursuant to subdivision a of section 81.51 of the New York City health code [that is part of a chain with 15 of more locations doing business under the same name and offering for sale substantially the same food items].

§ 2. Chapter 1 of title 17 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 17.199.26 to read as follows:

d. Outreach. No later than 90 days after the effective date of the local law that added this section, the commissioner shall conduct outreach to educate restaurants about the requirements of this section.

§ 3. This local law takes effect 180 days after it becomes law.
