A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to ending fluoridation of the municipal water supply

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 17 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 17-199.29 to read as follows:

§ 17-199.29 Fluoridation of municipal water supply. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the term "municipal water supply" means all drinking water for human consumption within pipes, mains, and structures owned or maintained by the city.

b. No fluoride compound shall be added to the municipal water supply.

c. Prior to implementation of subdivision b of this section, the department shall take all actions required by subdivision 3 of section 1100-a of the public health law.

d. The department shall establish a program to provide fluoride supplements at no cost to individuals who request them.

§ 2. This local law takes effect 1 year after it becomes law.
