A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring the department for the aging to establish a program that allows older adults to register their emergency contact information
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 2 of title 21 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 21-218 to read as follows:
§ 21-218 Voluntary emergency contact registration. a. Definitions. For the purposes of this section, the term “older adult” has the same meaning as set forth in subdivision a of section 21-210.
b. No later than one year after the effective date of the local law that added this section, the commissioner shall establish a program that allows older adults to register certain information with the department. The information collected and retained shall include:
1. The name, date of birth, address, and telephone number of the registrant;
2. The name, address, and telephone number of the registrant’s emergency contact; and
3. Any other information that the registrant wishes to provide, including relevant medical information.
c. The commissioner may disclose the information collected and retained pursuant to subdivision b of this section to other agencies; provided, however, that registrants may restrict the commissioner from sharing their information with particular agencies or with all agencies.
d. The department shall conduct outreach to promote awareness of the program. Such outreach shall include, but not be limited to, an annual mailing to older adults who may benefit from enrollment in such program or who may care for or serve such older adults.
§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately
