A Local Law to amend the Administrative Code of the City of New York in relation to enhancing the safety of pedestrians and the clear travel of motorists.
 
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
      Section one. Subchapter 3 of chapter 1 of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding thereto a new section 19-180 to read as follows:
      § 19-180. Installation of protected pedestrian phases.
      1. Within six months of the effective date of this local law, the commissioner shall install protected pedestrian phase traffic signals at all pedestrian intersections, except at those intersections where the commissioner determines after a study that installation of a protected pedestrian phase traffic signal would be adverse to pedestrian safety.
      §2. This local law shall take effect immediately after its enactment into law.
