Int 0303-2026 *Christopher Marte  Maximum working hours for home care aides.IntroductionThis bill would set the maximum working hours that an employer may assign to a home care aide. The bill would prohibit home care employers from assigning any home care employee a shift that is longer than 12 hours, consecutive 12-hour shifts, or shifts totaling more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period. The bill would prohibit home care employers from assigning more than 56 hours per week to a home care employee, unless such employee consents to excess hours in writing. Employees would have the right to revoke their consent to work in excess of 56 hours per week. This bill would also empower the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) to conduct investigations of violations of this bill, and impose a $500 fine for violations of the law. This bill imposes a notice requirement under which employers would be required to provide home care aides with a notice of their rights, or incur a $50 fine for failure to provide such notice.Hearing Held by Committee  Action details Not available
