| * | Inez D. Barron | | Proposed Int. No. 1138-A | Establish a task force on affordability, admissions, and graduation rates at CUNY. | Introduction | This bill would establish a temporary task force to examine ways to increase affordability and admission to the City University of New York (CUNY), including the feasibility of eliminating tuition at CUNY and, to the extent appropriate, develop recommendations for addressing such matters. The task force would be composed of 13 members including the Public Advocate or their designee, the Speaker of the City Council or their designee, 7 members to be appointed by the mayor, and 4 members to be appointed by the Speaker of the City Council. Members would be appointed within 90 days of enactment of this local law. Members would meet at least three times. The task force would be required to issue a report to the Mayor and the Speaker no later than October 15, 2017. The report would take into account the State’s role in substantially funding CUNY and would include, but not be limited to, an analysis of obstacles affecting the affordability of, admission to, and timely graduation from CUNY.
