Summary: This bill would require the Campaign Finance Board (CFB) to mail campaign contributors listed in a campaign’s disclosure report an acknowledgment of their contribution. The acknowledgement would include the amount and date of the contributions, a request to contact the CFB if there is a discrepancy with the contribution, and instructions on how to contact the CFB.

A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to notification to campaign contributors for covered elections

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

Section 1. Subdivision 6 of section 3-703 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new paragraph (c) to read as follows:

(c) The board shall, within 30 days of receiving a disclosure report submitted pursuant to this subdivision, send a notification to each contributor listed in such disclosure report. The board shall test different methods of sending such notification, including mail and electronic mail, and shall send such notification by mail or by any method that the board determines provides for receipt of such notification as effectively as mail provides for such receipt. Each such notification shall include:

(i) the amount and date of any contribution included on the disclosure report, provided that any such contribution not separately itemized on such report pursuant to subparagraph (ii) of paragraph (b) of this subdivision need not be listed separately on such statement;

(ii) information about the matching funds program and an expression of appreciation to the contributor for participating in the election process;

(iii) a request to contact the board if the contributor did not make any such contribution, or if the date or amount of any such contribution is inaccurate; and

(iv) information about how to contact the board.

§ 2. This local law takes effect January 1, 2026.RL/JG
