Summary: The New York City charter grants members of the Board of Correction and certain other designated indviduals the power to inspect all books, records, documents, and papers of the Department of Correction. This legislation amends the charter to clarify that this power includes direct and real-time remote access to the video monitoring systems being utilized by the department, with the exception of the body-worn camera system.

A Local Law to amend the New York city charter, in relation to the board of correction’s access to records

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

Section 1. Paragraph 2 of subdivision c of section 626 of the New York city charter, is amended to read as follows

2. The inspection of all books, records, documents, and papers of the department including direct and real-time remote access to the video monitoring systems being utilized by the department and the ability to retain physical and electronic copies, not including the body-warn camera system;

§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately.
