Resolution calling upon the Metropolitan Transit Authority and the New York City Department of Transportation to coordinate payment technology so that all muni-meter parking cards are compatible with the city’s transit fare technology.

 

By Council Members Felder, Brewer, Comrie, Fidler, Gentile, Jackson, James, Mealy, Palma, Stewart, Weprin, Nelson, Vallone Jr., Dilan and White Jr.

 

Whereas, The Department of Transportation (DOT) is responsible for the oversight of parking meter and muni-meter payment; and

Whereas, DOT has implemented the use of parking cards as a form of payment at muni meters; and

Whereas, The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) is responsible for the oversight of the transit fare technology, including transit cards, on the city’s public transportation; and

Whereas, Currently, a parking card is used to pay at muni-meters in New York City and a transit card is used to pay for various forms of transit; and

Whereas, The two payment systems are currently not compatible; and

Whereas, Compatibility between the two payment systems would increase the convenience and efficiency of payment for the users of the muni-meters and transit services; now, therefore, be it

                     Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the Metropolitan Transit Authority and the New York City Department of Transportation to coordinate payment technology so that all muni-meter parking cards are compatible with the city’s transit fare technology.
