A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring the Fire Department of the City of New York to send bi-annual written notice to all residents of New York City reminding them to check the operation of their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and other fire prevention information.
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter one of title 15 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 15-129 to read as follows:
§ 15-129 Bi-annual fire safety notification. Every six months, beginning not later than November 1, 2008, the fire department shall send written notice, in such form and manner as determined by the commissioner, to the occupants of every dwelling unit within occupancy groups J-1, J-2 and J-3 within the city of New York required by title 27 of this code to be equipped with smoke or carbon monoxide detecting devices, reminding them to regularly check and inspect their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, replace the batteries when necessary and advising of other fire safety information.
§ 2. This local law shall take effect immediately upon enactment.
