A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city New York, in relation to requiring that all new publicly financed or subsidized housing subject to the review and approval of the department of housing preservation and development be wired for broadband internet access.

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

                     Section 1.  Title 27 of the administrative code of the city of New York is hereby amended by adding a new chapter 2-A to read as follows:

Chapter 2-A.

TECHNOLOGY IN CERTAIN NEW HOUSING

§ 27-2201.  Broadband internet access.

§ 27-2201.  Broadband internet access.  The department of housing preservation and development, or any successor agency, shall adopt a design guideline requiring access to a shared broadband Internet connection in every dwelling unit of all new housing construction projects that are subject to review and approval by such department.  For the purposes of this section, “broadband” shall mean the capability for the electronic transmission and receipt of data at a transmission speed of at least seven hundred fifty kilobits per second in both directions.

                     § 2.  This local law shall take effect immediately upon its enactment into law.
