Resolution calling upon the Land Use Committee to file an application to amend the text of the Zoning Resolution in regard to language requirements on signs.

Whereas, Section 201 of the New York City Charter allows, inter alia, the Land Use Committee of the City Council to file an application for changes in the Zoning Resolution if two-thirds of the members of the Committee shall have voted to do so; and
Whereas, such an application will be considered and reviewed in the manner set forth in Section 200 of the Charter and will undergo such environmental review as is required by law; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED that the Land Use Committee hereby approves the filing of an application that will amend Zoning Resolution of the City of New York in the manner set forth below:

Additional regulations for projecting business signs

In all districts, as indicated, permitted accessory business signs may be displayed as follows:
(a) Non-illuminated signs may be displayed on awnings or canopies permitted by Section C26-219.0 of the Administrative Code, with a surface area not exceeding 12 square feet and with the height of letters not exceeding 12 inches, provided that such signs shall be limited to identification of the name or address of the building or an establishment contained therein.
(b) Signs may be displayed on marquees permitted by Section C26-219.0 of the Administrative Code, provided that such signs conform to the provisions of Section B26-7.0(g) of the Administrative Code, and provided further that no such sign in a district other than a C6-5, C6-7 or C7 District shall project more than 48 inches above nor more than 12 inches below such marquee.
(c) In all districts, as indicated, any permitted sign containing information imprinted or displayed in a language other than English, shall also contain the same information, in equivalent size and proportion, in English.
