A Local Law to amend the Administrative Code of the City of New York in relation to the duties of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

Section 1:  Subdivision b. of Section 25-303 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York is hereby amended as follows:

                     b. It shall be the duty of the commission, after a public hearing, to designate a landmark site for each landmark and to designate the location and boundaries of such site.  Prior to any designation made pursuant to Section 25-303 (a) (1) (2) (3) or (4) and prior to the designation of any landmark site, the commission or its staff shall research the history of such site to ascertain if, at any time, activities relating to slavery or any slavery-related business were conducted on said site.  The findings of the commission or its staff regarding such research shall be included in the designation report for such site.  In the event that such research is inconclusive as to the existence of slavery or slavery-related business, a statement to that effect shall be included in the designation report.

§2. This local law shall take effect immediately.
