Res. No. 406 Title Resolution calling upon the Republican National Committee to designate New York City as the host city of the 2004 Republican National Convention. Body By The Speaker (Council Member Miller) and Council Members Sanders, Davis, DeBlasio, Dilan, Felder, Fidler, Gerson, Jackson, Liu, McMahon, Monserrate, Nelson, Perkins, Recchia, Rivera, Seabrook, Weprin, Golden and Lanza Whereas, The next Republican National Convention to select Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates will be held in 2004; and Whereas, New York City wishes to be the host city for the Republican National Convention in 2004; and Whereas, New York City is a world-class city with state of the art facilities and vast experience in hosting important events; and Whereas, No other city can match New York City's energy, history, diversity, commerce and, most important, its people; and Whereas, New York City is prepared to implement a comprehensive and unparalleled plan for the spectacular success of the Republican National Convention; and Whereas, New York City now plays a new symbolic role in American life in the aftermath of the tragic World Trade Center attack; and Whereas, The selection of New York City as host to the Republican National Convention would be a tremendous honor and show of support to our city and state that has met tremendous challenges over the last six months; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calling upon the Republican National Committee to designate New York City as the host of the 2004 Republican Convention.
