Whereas, The next Democratic National Convention to select Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates will be held in 2004; and
Whereas, New York City wishes to be the host city for the Democratic National Convention in 2004; and
Whereas, New York City is a world-class city with state of the art facilities and vast experience in hosting important events; and
Whereas, No other city can match New York City's energy, history, diversity, commerce and, most important, its people; and
Whereas, New York City is prepared to implement a comprehensive and unparalleled plan for the spectacular success of the Democratic National Convention; and
Whereas, New York City now plays a new symbolic role in American life in the aftermath of the tragic World Trade Center attack; and
Whereas, The selection of New York City as host to the Democratic National Convention would be a tremendous honor and show of support for our city and state that have met tremendous challenges over the last six months; and
Whereas, The Bloomberg Administration has submitted a formal proposal to the Democratic National Committee to host the 2004 Democratic National Convention; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the Democratic National Committee to designate New York City as the host city for the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
