Res. No. 405 Title Resolution calling upon the Democratic National Committee to designate New York City as the host city for the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Body By The Speaker (Council Member Miller) and Council Members Sanders, Baez, Davis, DeBlasio, Dilan, Felder, Fidler, Gerson, Jackson, Koppell, Liu, McMahon, Monserrate, Nelson, Perkins, Recchia, Rivera, Seabrook, Weprin, Golden and Lanza; also Council Member Gioia Whereas, The next Democratic National Convention to select Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates will be held in 2004; and Whereas, New York City wishes to be the host city for the Democratic National Convention in 2004; and Whereas, New York City is a world-class city with state of the art facilities and vast experience in hosting important events; and Whereas, No other city can match New York City's energy, history, diversity, commerce and, most important, its people; and Whereas, New York City is prepared to implement a comprehensive and unparalleled plan for the spectacular success of the Democratic National Convention; and Whereas, New York City now plays a new symbolic role in American life in the aftermath of the tragic World Trade Center attack; and Whereas, The selection of New York City as host to the Democratic National Convention would be a tremendous honor and show of support for our city and state that have met tremendous challenges over the last six months; and Whereas, The Bloomberg Administration has submitted a formal proposal to the Democratic National Committee to host the 2004 Democratic National Convention; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the Democratic National Committee to designate New York City as the host city for the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
