Title

By Council Members Nelson, Comrie, DeBlasio, Dilan, Felder, Foster, Gerson, Jackson, Lopez, McMahon, Monserrate, Perkins, Sanders, Seabrook, Serrano and Stewart
Whereas, New York City stands as one of the busiest cities in the world, with over 8 million people living and working together on any given day; and
Whereas, In a city of this size, a large number of emergency and non-emergency situations arise everyday, prompting New Yorkers to seek help from their local police stations; and
Whereas, There remains confusion among New Yorkers regarding which police precinct they should contact and what telephone number they should call; and
Whereas, Such confusion results in greater danger to the people of this city, slower response times by the police, and a greater number of non-emergency calls being made to an already overtaxed E-911 system; and
Whereas, Clearly displaying a police precinct telephone number on all police vehicles would, through advertising of that number, help New Yorkers know the appropriate precinct to call in case of a situation, reduce the number of non-emergency calls being made to the E-911 system, and generally help the public to become more acquainted with its local police precinct; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls on the New York City Police Department to clearly display the appropriate police precinct telephone number on motorized and non-motorized police vehicles.
