Res. No. 73 Title Resolution calling upon the United States Congress to halt the flow of all consumer products in the United States from nations deemed by the State Department as supporting terrorism. Body By Council Members Seabrook, Katz, Koppell, Nelson, and Rivera Whereas, A series of terrorist acts of horrific proportions were perpetrated on New York City and the United States of America on September 11, 2001; and Whereas, As a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, the United States is presently engaging in a war to combat terrorism; and Whereas, Terrorism survives because nations harbor and fund the terrorists who commit these atrocious acts; and Whereas, Without nations harboring these terrorists, they would not survive; and Whereas, The State Department of the United States of America has identified those nations that sponsor terrorism; and Whereas, The nations that sponsor terrorism should not be rewarded by the international economic community by allowing them to participate in the world economy; and Whereas, Products made in the nations deemed by the State Department as supporting terrorism should not be allowed or sold in the United States; and Whereas, The Nike Corporation has recently sold jerseys in Washington D.C. that were made in Syria which is on the terrorist list; and Whereas, Congress should study and legislate such measures as stopping the importation and sale of goods in the United States from nations supporting terrorism; and Whereas, Congress should study and legislate ways to halt companies and government entities from contracting with companies that make, produce or manufacture their products in terrorist supporting nations; and Whereas, In the future, no products made in nations supporting terrorists should be sold or purchased in the United States so that American money does not fall indirectly into the hands of terrorist organizations; now therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the United States Congress to pass legislation halting the flow of consumer products into the United States of America from those nations deemed by the State Department as supporting terrorism. |1013| |1013|
