Res. No. 2118 Title Resolution calling upon the Congress of the United States to pass S. 1225 and H.R. 1021 placing an abridged version of the Constitution on the back of United States currency. Body By Council Members Moskowitz and Clarke Whereas, A group of terrorists hijacked four passenger jets on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001; and Whereas, This group used two jets to attack the World Trade Center in New York and one to attack the Pentagon in Virginia; and Whereas, Passengers of the fourth jet heroically acted to stop the assailants by crash-landing the jet in Western Pennsylvania; and Whereas, More than 5,000 innocent Americans, the vast majority of which were civilians, died as a result of this attack; and Whereas, These attacks struck at more than just the military and financial centers of the United States; and Whereas, These attacks were also assaults on the values of democracy and tolerance; and Whereas, These attacks were an act of war against the United States and the principles of liberty and freedom which it has championed since the founding fathers first declared our independence from the British Empire in 1776; and Whereas, These values are our nation's greatest asset in winning the hearts and minds of people all over the world; and Whereas, The United States spends more than $500 million annually promoting these principles around the world; and Whereas, The United States produces more than 11 billion currency notes every fiscal year; and Whereas, United States currency is a world-wide symbol of stability used by people in every country; and Whereas, Too few American citizens are well-versed in our system of government and the Constitution; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the Congress of the United States to pass S. 1225 and H.R. 1021 placing an abridged version of the Constitution on the back of United States currency.
