Res. No. 2040 Title Resolution calling upon the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York to hold an oversight hearing on the Health and Hospitals Corporation's proposal to redesign Harlem Hospital Center. Body By Council Members Perkins, Marshall and Reed; also Council Members Freed, Harrison, Linares, Lopez, Michels, Quinn, Sabini, Warden and Wooten Whereas, The Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) is planning to refurbish the Harlem Hospital Center campus; and Whereas, HHC's plans for the refurbishment of the Harlem Hospital Center include the construction of a new tower, the demolition of five existing buildings, the addition of skylight-enclosed passageways and a new dedicated driveway, the consolidation of health services offered at the Center, and the provision of new clinical services and equipment; and Whereas, While HHC estimates that the project will cost approximately $160 million, it has currently secured only $29 million from the City of New York to finance this plan; and Whereas, HHC is currently experiencing massive budget gaps which are projected to total approximately $500 million in the next three years; and Whereas, A needs assessment should be undertaken to determine the projected needs of the community, and to provide the public with an opportunity to participate in the planning process; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York hold an oversight hearing on the Health and Hospitals Corporation's proposal to expand Harlem Hospital Center.
