Res. No. 1980 Title Resolution calling for the immediate passage and implementation of H.R. 1935, the Korea Defense Service Medal Act. Body By The Speaker (Council Member Vallone) and Council Members Harrison, Malave-Dilan, Freed, Nelson, Robles, Warden, Abel and Golden; also Council Members Eisland, Fisher, Foster, Koslowitz, Michels, Povman and Clarke Whereas, Though the Korean War ended half a century ago, Americans continue to serve on the 38th Parallel that now divides the nations of North and South Korea; and Whereas, Since Armistice, there have been more than 40,000 breaches of the cease-fire agreement, and more than 1,200 service members have died as a result; and Whereas, Americans who served in danger and under fire following the Armistice still have not been recognized; and Whereas, The time has come for the United States to honor those courageous veterans who served in Korea after war's end; and Whereas, H.R. 1935, The Korea Defense Service Medal Act, would provide for the creation of a new medal recognizing the bravery of those Americans who helped protect an uncertain peace; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls for the immediate passage and implementation of H.R. 1935, the Korea Defense Service Medal Act.
