Res. No. 1899 Title Resolution calling upon the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York to conduct an oversight hearing of the City's procurement practices related to the Manhattan Bridge renovation project. Body By Council Members Freed and Carrion; also Council Members Sabini, Michels and Quinn Whereas, The Manhattan Bridge renovation project has become one of the City's longest-running reconstruction projects; and Whereas, According to the New York Times, a City employee was arrested several weeks ago for seeking a bribe from a contractor on the project; and Whereas, The reconstruction work for the ninety year old bridge has been going on for nearly twenty years and been the source of continuous frustration for nearby residents, motorists and those who rely on mass transit; and Whereas, Serious questions have been raised regarding the numerous delays in completing the project; and Whereas, A thorough review of the numerous contracts involved in the project should be conducted for the purpose of examining the performance of the contractors engaged in the project, the number of defaults that have occurred and what, if any, integrity review mechanisms are in place to root out corruption and to ensure that corrupt practices do not occur; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York conduct an oversight hearing in relation to the City's procurement practices related to the Manhattan Bridge renovation project.
