Res. No 1569 Title Resolution condemning the violence against the people of Israel and the State of Israel, and calling upon Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasir Arafat to seize the moment and call upon the Palestinians to cease and desist from perpetrating aggressive acts of hatred and terrorism and promote a unified effort to control the urges of war and foster peace and cohesion in the State of Israel. Body By Council Members Dear, The Speaker (Council Member Vallone), Berman, Fisher, Rivera, DiBrienza, Eisland, Koslowitz, McCaffrey, Michels, Moskowitz, Nelson, Abel and Stabile; also Council Members Lasher, Leffler, O'Donovan and Povman Whereas, The United Nations has acted with unfair bias towards the Government and the people of the State of Israel; and Whereas, The administration of the United States acted with cruelty towards a close ally in not vetoing the biased vote in the United Nations condemning the State of Israel for no other reason than the act of self-defense and national security; and Whereas, The nations around the world are now looking at the Palestinian people as victims of unprovoked terror and violence; and Whereas, This hatred and violence was first implemented by the Palestinians to stop the Peace Process and promote their desire for a "Palestinian State;" and Whereas, The Palestinians continue their call for nationalism and for "acts of terror" to be committed against any who stand in the way of their "statehood;" and Whereas, Yasir Arafat has long been considered a terrorist and has assisted his people in being trained as terrorists; and Whereas, The violence that took place over the High Holy Days was a hatched plot conceived and premeditated by the Palestinians; and Whereas, They knew they could easily victimize the citizens of Israel who were in the midst of Holiday celebrations; and Whereas, Israel has traditionally been our most trusted ally in the Middle East and that it is therefore the duty of the American government to do all it can to ensure the future safety and security of the people of Israel; and Whereas, The Council of the City of New York calls upon the President of the United States and the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to show unwavering support for the people of Israel and hold Yasir Arafat responsible for the violence and terror that his people continue to perpetrate as they decry any real everlasting peace, for the sake of nationalism and terror; now, therefore, be it Resolved, that the Council of the City of New York condemns the violence against the people of Israel and the State of Israel, and calls upon Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasir Arafat to seize the moment and call upon the Palestinians to cease and desist from perpetrating aggressive acts of hatred and terrorism and promote a unified effort to control the urges of war and foster peace and cohesion in the State of Israel.
