Resolution honoring the 10 year anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and in particular, reaffirming the New York City Council's recognition of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act as vital to the continued progress of disabled New Yorkers.

Whereas, The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (the "ADA") protects the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities to participate in all aspects of our society; and
Whereas, There are over 2.5 million people with disabilities in the State of New York; and
Whereas, In particular, Title II of the ADA was enacted to ensure access for the disabled to public services including public programs and transportation; and
Whereas, According to an investigative report published by the New York State Assembly Task Force on People with Disabilities, while much has been accomplished in providing disabled New Yorkers access to public services, people with disabilities still face barriers to such services; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York honors the 10 year anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and in particular, reaffirms its recognition of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act as vital to the continued progress of disabled New Yorkers.
