No. 1272 Title Resolution calling upon the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York to conduct an oversight hearing in relation to delays to award city contracts to organizations that provide aid to children suffering from asthma and other respiratory ailments. Body By Council Members Freed, Boyland, Carrion, Clarke, Espada, Henry, Lopez, Marshall, Perkins, Quinn, Reed, Rodriguez, Warden and Stabile; also Council Members Foster, Leffler, Michels, Povman, Robinson, Watkins and White Whereas, According to recent reports, City contracts awards are being delayed that would help children suffering from asthma and other respiratory ailments; and Whereas, Despite the City's intent to launch a three-year childhood asthma initiative program, contracts with five organizations providing case management, network services and asthma education have not yet been approved by the Giuliani Administration; and Whereas, These organizations would serve as community centers for asthma sufferers in all five boroughs; and Whereas, These contracts are desperately needed to assist children suffering from asthma and other respiratory ailments, many, who live in economically disadvantaged communities throughout the City; and Whereas, Continued delays in the City's contracting process to award and fund these organizations will only serve to create a far worse situation for children suffering from asthma and other respiratory ailments; now, therefore, be it Resolved that the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York conduct an oversight hearing in relation to delays awards of City contracts to organizations that provide aid to children suffering from asthma and other respiratory ailments.
