Title: A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to leasing or rental of city properties

Summary: This bill would require that within five years of obtaining vacant real property or real property managed by the City becoming vacant, the Commissioner of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services lease or rent the property. If the property is not leased or rented within five years, the Commissioner is required to provide notice of the vacancy and the reason for the vacancy to the City Council Member and Community Board for the district in which the property is located.

A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to leasing or rental of city properties

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

Section 1. Section 4-203 of the administrative code of the city of New York, is amended by adding a new subdivision f to read as follows:

f. Leasing or renting vacant property. 1. Except as otherwise provided in subdivision d of this section, in any case where the city acquires real property by purchase, condemnation, or otherwise or any real property that the commissioner is authorized to manage becomes vacant, the commissioner shall lease or rent any such property within five years of obtaining such property or such property becoming vacant, where practicable.

2. Where such property is not leased or rented within five years, the commissioner shall issue a notice of the vacancy and provide the reason for such vacancy to the council member and community board for the district in which such property is located.

§ 2. This local law takes effect 120 days after it becomes law.
