Resolution calling for the immediate passage and implementation of H.R. 1935, the Korea Defense Service Medal Act.

By The Speaker (Council Member Vallone) and Council Members Harrison, Malave-Dilan, Freed, Nelson, Robles, Warden, Abel and Golden; also Council Members Eisland, Fisher, Foster, Koslowitz, Michels, Povman and Clarke
Whereas, Though the Korean War ended half a century ago, Americans continue to serve on the 38th Parallel that now divides the nations of North and South Korea; and
Whereas, Since Armistice, there have been more than 40,000 breaches of the cease-fire agreement, and more than 1,200 service members have died as a result; and
Whereas, Americans who served in danger and under fire following the Armistice still have not been recognized; and
Whereas, The time has come for the United States to honor those courageous veterans who served in Korea after war's end; and
Whereas, H.R. 1935, The Korea Defense Service Medal Act, would provide for the creation of a new medal recognizing the bravery of those Americans who helped protect an uncertain peace; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls for the immediate passage and implementation of H.R. 1935, the Korea Defense Service Medal Act.
