A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to the replacement of stop signs.
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section one. Subchapter one of chapter one of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding thereto a new section 19-128 to read as follows:
§19-128 Damaged or missing stop signs. a. The department shall maintain a record of notices of stop signs that are missing or damaged to the extent that a stop sign is not visible to the motorist who must obey the sign, which shall include the date such notice was received, the name or other identifying information of the person providing such notice and the date on which such stop sign was repaired or replaced, or a determination was made that replacement or repair was not warranted.
b. The department shall replace or repair such stop signs within forty-eight hours of receiving the notice or make a determination that replacement or repair is not required. Where such a determination is made not to repair or replace a stop sign, the department shall immediately notify the complainant in writing of that determination.
§2. This local law shall take effect ninety days after it is enacted into law.
