Summary: This bill would require that street signs installed for ceremonial co-namings contain a Quick Response (QR) code on the sign that would enable someone using a mobile device to link to the biographical or historical information related to the person or entity named on such sign.

A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to accessing biographical information pertaining to ceremonial street signs through quick response codes

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 Section 1. Section 25-102.2 of the administrative code of the city of New York, is amended by adding a new subdivision c to read as follows:

c. For any sign installed after July 1, 2025 for any street, park, playground, facility or structure, or portion thereof, co-named in accordance with section 25-102.1 of this chapter, an office or agency designated by the mayor shall ensure that such sign includes a quick response code, through use of which an individual with a properly equipped mobile device may directly access the biographical and/or background information posted to a website pursuant to subdivision a relating to the person or entity named on such sign. To the extent practicable, for such signs installed prior to July 1, 2025, an office or agency designated by the mayor shall ensure that such signs include such quick response codes no later than July 1, 2028.

§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately.
