By the Speaker (Council Member Vallone) and Council Members Berman, O'Donovan, Ognibene, Dear, Eisland, Henry and Golden; also Council Members Fisher, Koslowitz, Leffler, Linares, Michels, Miller, Nelson, Povman, Rodriguez, Wooten and Abel
Whereas, Since 1987, the City of New York and the Intrepid Museum Foundation have hosted a week-long celebration of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces; and
Whereas, Fleet Week, as it has been called for many years, is a time when the people of the City of New York come together to salute our sons and daughters in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard for their dedication to protecting our nation; and
Whereas, This year, Military Salute Week, as it has been renamed by the Intrepid Museum Foundation and the Department of Defense, will draw thousands of members of all five military branches to the City of New York and the people of this City will join in a number of celebrations to welcome and honor them; and
Whereas, These military servicemen and servicewomen will be especially welcomed to a vast number of cultural, entertainment and sports venues as a sign of the City's gratitude and the gratitude of the Intrepid Museum Foundation; and
Whereas, The annual Military Salute Week is an opportunity for all New Yorkers to express their support of the men and women who work to protect our skies, our seas, our land and the people of our country; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York recognizes the week of July 3 - July 9, 2000 as Military Salute Week and honors all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
