A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to the issuance of special parking permits to authorize parking for commercial containers for a period of forty-eight hours
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 19-171 to read as follows:
§19-171 Permissible parking for commercial containers. a.For purposes of this section, a “commercial container” shall mean a metal or plastic container which contains personal property, none of which shall be toxic or perishable goods, the dimensions of which shall not exceed forty feet in length, eight feet in width and twelve feet in height.
b. A commercial container which is not attached to or part of any motorized vehicle may be parked on the street for a period of up to forty-eight hours, provided a permit has been obtained from the department prior thereto. Such permit shall authorize parking in a no parking or no standing zone or at a meter for a maximum of forty-eight hours. Such permit shall not authorize parking in front of a hydrant, house of worship, driveway, bus stop or emergency entrance or exit. The permit shall list the license plate number of such commercial container and the name and telephone number of its owner or another person who would be authorized to remove such container in the event of an emergency.
§2. This local law shall take effect sixty days after its enactment into law.
