Title
Resolution condemning the ongoing bias of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights against the State of Israel.
Body
By Council Members Nelson, Fisher, Freed, Michels, Warden, Abel and Oddo; also Council Members Eisland, Koslowitz and Povman
Whereas, The United Nations Commission on Human Rights has repeatedly singled out Israel for singularly harsh criticism; and
Whereas, This bias has persisted in the Commission's most recent session in Geneva; and
Whereas, The agenda for that session devoted an entire item to the human rights situation existing in "occupied Arab territories including Palestine," making Israel the only state or region to have an agenda item specifically devoted to it; and
Whereas, This bias was also reflected in a resolution passed by the body which condemned Israel for its military response to terrorism, while failing in any way to call upon the Palestinian Authority to prevent terrorist activities; and
Whereas, This unequal treatment can only serve to increase animosity in the region, and to provoke militants to engage in further acts of aggression; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York condemns the ongoing bias of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights against the State of Israel.
