Summary: This bill would require the Fire Department (FDNY) to report on the availability of emergency medical services (EMS) units for each day of the prior calendar year, categorized by EMS unit type and EMS station. The reported information would include the total number of EMS units, and the total number of EMS units that are unable to respond to an emergency call, disaggregated by the reason for such inability.

A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to reporting on emergency medical services units

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 15 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 15-151 to read as follows:

§ 15-151 Report on emergency medical services units. a. Definitions. As used in this section, the following terms have the following meanings:

Emergency medical services station. The term “emergency medical services station” has the same meaning as set forth in section 15-137.

Emergency medical services unit. The term “emergency medical services unit” has the same meaning as set forth in section 15-137.

b. Report. No later than 6 months after the effective date of the local law that added this section, and annually thereafter, the commissioner shall submit to the mayor and the speaker of the council, and post on the department’s website, a report regarding emergency medical services units. Such report shall include the following information for each day of the preceding calendar year, subdivided by emergency medical services unit type and emergency medical services station:

1. The total number of emergency medical service units; and

2. The total number of emergency medical services units that are unable to respond to an emergency call, disaggregated by the reason for such inability.

§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately.
