A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring the Department of Transportation to issue a report every three years in relation to traffic accidents and recommendations for the installation of traffic control signals and traffic calming devices at intersections near public elementary, intermediate and junior high schools.
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Subchapter 3 of chapter 1 of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York, is amended by adding a new section 19-180 to read as follows:
§19-180 Traffic study of intersections near schools. Not later than six months after the effective date of the local law that added this section and by the first of April every three years thereafter, the commissioner shall prepare and submit a report to the city council regarding traffic accidents at intersections within fifty feet of the property line of every public elementary, intermediate and junior high school. Such report shall list the number of traffic accidents at or near each such location where such an accident occurred within the immediately preceding three year period, the cause of each such accident and a description of any fatality or injury which occurred as a result of each such accident. Such report shall also make recommendations as to the feasibility of and plans to install any traffic calming devices or traffic control signals at each intersection where a traffic accident occurred.
§2. This local law shall take effect immediately.
