A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to inspections for bed bugs in theaters
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 2 of title 20 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new subchapter 36 to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER 36
THEATERS
§20-563 Definitions. As used in this subchapter, the following terms have the following meanings:
“Seat” means any chair, bench, or similar piece of furniture with padding or fabric upholstery made available for public use.
“Theater” means any commercial establishment operated to display motion pictures.
§20-564 Certificate of bed bug inspection. a. Within 180 days of the effective date of the local law that added this section, the department, in cooperation with the department of health and mental hygiene, shall develop standards for inspecting all seats inside a theater for bed bug infestation.
b. Theaters shall certify to the department on an annual basis that their seats have been inspected and are free of bed bug infestation in accordance with standards established in subdivision a of this section. Failure to certify with the department shall be punishable by a fine of $1,000 for each missed certification.
§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately.
