A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring the department of parks and recreation to install and fill dog waste bag dispensers at dog runs
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 18 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 18-171 to read as follows:
§ 18-171 Dog run dog waste bag dispenser installation. a. Definitions. For the purposes of this section the following terms have the following meanings:
Dog run. The term “dog run” means an enclosed area located within a park under the jurisdiction of the department where a pet dog, accompanied by the owner or person supervising such dog, may engage in leisure activity.
Dog waste bag dispenser. The term “dog waste bag dispenser" means any container manufactured for the purpose of containing and dispensing dog waste bags.
b. The commissioner shall install a dog waste bag dispenser at the entrance of every dog run and complete the installation of all such dog waste bag dispensers no later than 1 year after the effective date of the local law that added this section. The commissioner shall fill each dog waste bag dispenser installed pursuant to this section with compostable dog waste bags, check each dog waste bag dispenser at least once per week, and refill them with compostable dog waste bags as needed.
§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately.
